The meeting of the Asian Arab Chamber of Commerce under the aegis of United Diplomatic Council (UDC) was held in Dubai with the presence of various delegates from Africa, Japan, Germany and India.
The event saw the address by Dr. Farzam Kamalabadi , the Advisor to the President of Botswana. In 2022, President Mokgweetsi Masisi of Botswana participated in National Day events hosted by the United Arab Emirates (UAE). He was welcomed by Sheikh Nahyan bin Mubarak Al Nahyan, and discussions highlighted cooperation across agribusiness, health, education, tourism, mining, innovation, and other sectors.
Additionally, Sheikh Mohammed bin Rashid Al Maktoum (Vice President & Prime Minister of the UAE) met President Masisi at the Botswana pavilion to explore investment, trade, and development synergies. Botswana and the UAE have maintained formal diplomatic relations since April 28, 2006
Ongoing Strengthening of Ties
In the past, Botswana’s President Duma Boko met with Sheikh Shakhboot Al Nahyan, a UAE special envoy. They reaffirmed strong bilateral relations and discussed expanding collaboration in investment, trade, and entrepreneur partnerships. Dr Farzam focused on how strategic tie ups can develop relations with Botswana as a region which has so far never experienced any conflict.
Other participants included His Excellency Yaqoob Al Ali from the UAE royal family and His Excellency Dr. Omar Marzooqi, the Ambassador Extraordinary and an active supporter of multilateral relations of the UAE with different communities.
During the event, Ms. Zeenat Kureshi was appointed as the Honorary Trade Commissioner for the Council, she is an active social worker who has been a strong advocate of women empowerment and building trade relations.
- The UAE stands out as the key Arab Asian partner actively engaging with Botswana across cultural, economic, and diplomatic lines.
- On the broader Asian front, countries like India, Japan, China, and Uzbekistan are collaborating with Botswana in areas like infrastructure, trade, energy, education, and digital development.
The Asian Arab Chamber of Commerce builds economic bridges by promoting and empowering the business community it serves on a local, national and international level. Asian Arab business entities are highly visible, culturally, economically and politically. Large business ownership, various community organizations and active political participation at the local, state, and federal levels are all testimony to the power and development of Asian Arabs today.
