Loyola College IETO launch the India’s Trade Strategyand Multipolar Trade Achitecture

Chennai, August 23, 2025: Loyola College (Autonomous), Chennai, hosted the National Conference on “India’s Trade Strategy and Reshaping Multipolar Trade Architecture” organized by the PG & Research Department of Economics. The conference brought together diplomats, economists, and academics to deliberate on India’s approach to building effective trade frameworks in a rapidly evolving multipolar world.

The event was inaugurated in the presence of Amb. Shri Amrit Lugun, IFS (Retd.), former Ambassador of India to Greece; H.E. Shri Thabang Linus Kholumo, Deputy High Commissioner of Lesotho in India; and Prof. Ranganathan, Honorary Consul of Myanmar in Chennai. The leadership of Loyola College was represented by Rev. Dr. Antony Robinson SJ, Rector; Rev. Dr. D. Thomas Alexander SJ, Secretary and Correspondent; and Rev. Dr. A. Louis Arockiaraj SJ, Principal and Chairman.

In his keynote address, Amb. Shri Amrit Lugun stated, “India’s trade strategy must be anchored in inclusivity and resilience. By forging deeper ties with diverse economies, we not only expand markets but also reinforce India’s position as a reliable and influential global partner.”

H.E. Shri Thabang Linus Kholumo highlighted the importance of South-South cooperation, noting that stronger partnerships between Africa and India will be central to shaping equitable global trade frameworks.

Prof. Ranganathan, Honorary Consul of Myanmar, emphasized the role of academic platforms in bridging scholarship and policy, thereby creating pragmatic trade strategies with real-world impact.

Dr. Asif Iqbal, President of the Indian Economic Trade Organization (IETO), remarked, “India’s ability to adapt and innovate in a complex global trade landscape is key to building enduring partnerships and advancing sustainable growth.”

The highlight of the conference was the release of the compendium “India’s Trade Strategy and Reshaping Multipolar Trade Architecture,” edited by Dr. R. Saritha, Convener of the conference and Chief Editor of the publication.

For students and scholars, the event provided a rare opportunity to engage directly with diplomats and trade experts, linking academic knowledge with global economic policy. The deliberations underscored India’s growing leadership in global trade while inspiring the next generation of economists and policymakers.
