Cuba Business Meet 2025: A New Chapter in India–Cuba Trade Relations

In the midst of statewide Navratri celebrations, with music, colour, and the rhythmic twirls of garba in the air, the Indian Economic Trade Organization (IETO) hosted the Cuba Business Meet 2025 in Gujarat. The gathering brought together prominent business leaders, trade commissioners, council members, and industry stakeholders, all committed to exploring new opportunities for collaboration between India and Cuba.

Cuba, often described as the gateway to Latin America, is globally recognized for its leadership in healthcare and biotechnology, while also boasting rich natural resources and a resilient economy. With over six decades of diplomatic ties, India and Cuba share a history of solidarity and cooperation across science, education, and culture—foundations that continue to shape their evolving economic partnership.

The event was graced by His Excellency Juan Carlos Marson Aguilera, Ambassador of the Republic of Cuba to India, who extended a warm invitation to Indian entrepreneurs. He highlighted opportunities across biotechnology, healthcare, pharmaceuticals, renewable energy, agriculture, and tourism—sectors where Cuba’s expertise and India’s entrepreneurial spirit can converge.

“Cuba stands prepared to work alongside India in creating partnerships that not only strengthen bilateral ties but also contribute to the prosperity of our regions,” noted the Ambassador.

Cuba’s trade profile reflects its strategic relevance: the country’s well-developed pharmaceutical and medical research sectors, combined with its agricultural capacity and growing tourism industry, position it as an attractive partner for Indian enterprises seeking to diversify their global footprint. With bilateral trade between India and Cuba valued at over US$100 million annually, and Cuba gaining international recognition for innovations such as its groundbreaking diabetes treatment Heberprot-P, the nation offers Indian businesses both a platform into the broader Latin American market and opportunities for innovation-driven collaborations.

Building on this momentum, Dr. Asif Iqbal, President of IETO, reaffirmed the organization’s vision for deepening India–Cuba relations.

“This meeting is not an end in itself, but the beginning of a greater journey. IETO is committed to fostering South–South cooperation.

He further announced that IETO will be leading a business delegation to Cuba in the first quarter of 2026 to explore opportunities and strengthen avenues of collaboration.

The Cuba Business Meet 2025 is more than a symbolic occasion; it represents the first step toward a shared vision of mutual growth. By combining India’s entrepreneurial energy with Cuba’s unique strengths, both nations are laying the groundwork for a more sustainable, interconnected, and mutually beneficial economic future.
