INDIA EU DIALOGUE
A key EU objective in the meeting were discussions on trade relations with India and to work towards a sound, transparent, open, non-discriminatory and predictable regulatory and business environment for European companies trading with or investing in India, including the protection of their investments and intellectual property. The aim is to contribute to unlocking the untapped potential of two-way trade and investment between the EU and India.
Currently, India’s trade regime and regulatory environment remains relatively restrictive. Technical barriers to trade (TBT), sanitary and phyto-sanitary (SPS) measures, deviation from internationally-agreed standards, as well as discrimination based on legislative or administrative measures by India, affect a wide range of sectors, including goods, services, public procurement and investment.
IETO Delegation headed by the President Dr. Asif Iqbal met the Ambassador of Republic of Tanzania in Brussels. Discussions revolved around the Tanzania’s efforts in strengthening trade relations with the European Union. Also discussed was the relations with India and how there India is a trusted partner in the area of Pharmaceuticals, Education, IT and Energy. The Ambassador invited Indian companies to regularly engage in multilateral engagements and dialogues that can enable partnerships and business relations between both the countries. The IETO delegation is expected to visit Tanzania in August 2023.
IETO Delegation headed by the President Dr. Asif Iqbal met the Ambassador of Republic of Kosovo in Brussels. Discussions revolved around the Kosovo’s efforts in strengthening trade relations with the European Union and accession to the EU membership. Also discussed was the relations with India and how there India could explore opportunities for business expansion in Kosovo and help Indian companies to establish in areas of Pharmaceuticals, Education, IT and Energy. The Ambassador invited Indian companies to regularly engage in trade engagements and dialogues that can enable partnerships and business relations between both the countries. The IETO delegation has visited capital Pristina in the past with various trade bodies and keeps engaging actively in the region which is a growing economy.
IETO Delegation headed by the President Dr. Asif Iqbal and other directors Kamal Gill of Agriculture Commission met the Ambassador of Republic of Jamiaca in Brussels. Discussions revolved around Jamaica’s efforts in strengthening trade relations with the European Union and collaboration with Indian companies in EU. The Indian company Skyreach locations in Amsterdam headed by the CEO Mr. Raj reddy also discussed opportunities in Hospitality sector in Jamaica. And discussed the relations with Netherlands and how there Jamaica could explore opportunities for business expansion with Dutch companies and help to establish in areas of Pharmaceuticals, Education, Tourism and Hospitality. The Ambassador invited Dutch companies headed by NRI’s and Indian diaspora to regularly engage in trade engagements and dialogues that can enable partnerships and business relations between both the countries. The IETO delegation has visited capital Kingston in the May 2023 and will be heading in 2023 July with various trade bodies to bridge more collaborations and partnerships with Jamaican companies.
IETO Delegation headed by the President Dr. Asif Iqbal met the Ambassador of Republic of Zimbabwe in Brussels on a courtesy call. Discussions revolved around the Zimbabwe’s efforts in strengthening trade relations with the countries of the European Union and trade relations with India. Also discussed was the relations with India and how there India could explore opportunities for business expansion in Zimbabwe and help Indian companies to establish in areas of Pharmaceuticals, Education, IT and Energy. The Ambassador briefed about the priority sectors of the country’s leadership and how companies can regularly engage in trade investment and proposals that can witness fruitful partnerships and business relations between both the countries. The IETO delegation has visited Harare last year and the Vice President of Zimbabwe was in India in June 2023 to be honored by the India Africa Awards IATC 2023 for his immense active participation in promoting the trade interests between both the countries. The Ambassador placed great thrust in energy sector of Zimbabwe and the academic partnerships for India and to keep the active engagement for promotion of the economy of Zimbabwe. The Ambassador was accompanied by the trade counsellor Edmore Tafadzwa Muchichwa. Indiand delegation to Zimbabwe is planning to travel in July last week of 2023.
The Directors of IETO Mr. Mohit Srivastava and the Trade Commissioner of India Africa Trade Council Mr. Umaiz Ahmed also had meetings with local Party leaders in Brussels. In one of the meetings, it was discussed for youth engagements with India EU collaborations and to engage the trade partnerships involving the youth of both regions. Such Partnerships will support sustainable digital, transport and energy networks, and the flow of people, goods, services, data and capital centred on equity and inclusivity for the benefit of both India and the EU and assisting in global development efforts, based on Sustainable Development Goal principles that no one is left behind. The Partnership will explore initiatives to improve connectivity between India and the EU as well as ensure synergies and complementarities between our developmental cooperation with partner countries.
