India and Cuba have long maintained relations supporting trade and commerce. Indian companies have been actively engaging in Cuba for collaborations.
About The India Cuba Trade Office
Established under the Indian Economic Trade Organization, the trade desks of Cuba support the companies from India to connect with their Cuban counterparts and to initiate collaborations that are in demand from both the sides. These desks work under the supervision of the commercial division of the Embassy and the Chamber of Commerce in Cuba based on the MOU signed by the IETO and the Cuba Chamber of Commerce in Havana.
Our Mission
Pharma sector
Cuban Pharma sector is one of the most promising areas for Indian collaboration. Cuba has developed a relatively sophisticated pharmaceutical sector, originally to provide medicinal products for her own population and, more recently, to earn hard currency through exports. Cuba has achieved both of these goals. Cuba is opening its economy to firms from other countries through the use of joint ventures and other forms of cooperation. US firms are unable to avail themselves of these opportunities and Indian companies could utilize these opportunities. In the case of pharmaceuticals, the Cubans recognize that they need assistance, particularly in the areas of marketing and packaging. Allowing the participation of Indian firms in the Cuban pharmaceutical industry could enhance the possibility of improving worldwide health care.
Conferences
The India Cuba interactions for business collaborations are held regularly in various Indian cities through the trade offices of Cuba. The direct communication between the Embassy and the trade offices gives a great opportunity for exploring such possibilities.
Delegations
The Indian delegation visiting Cuba had very fruitful and progressive developments during their interactions with various government functionaries and private sector. The possibilities are endless with the Indian private sector exploring various areas of supply, manufacturing and exports.
The Ambassador of Cuba to India HE Alejandro Simancas Marin attended the Independence Day celebarations that were held in Delhi on the Occassion of India's 75 years of Independence.
Tourism
The Cuban government has projected economic growth of 4 percent for 2022, forecasting that 2.5 million foreigners will travel to Cuba this year.
Cuban Prime Minister Manuel Marrero said at the opening ceremony in Havana, the capital city, that the Cuban government will continue to support tourism development, although the U.S. embargo on the island adversely affects the local tourism industry.
“We have the challenge to make Cuba into a more competitive tourist destination. Aside from sun and beach tourism, we are urged to promote cultural and heritage tourism as well as historical, health and nature tourism,” Marrero said.
Tourism Minister Juan Carlos Garcia, said that Cuba aims to develop its local tourism industry in keeping with environmental sustainability principles. The event features seminars, talks, and guided tours across tourist destinations from the provinces of Havana, Matanzas, Artemisa, Mayabeque and Pinar del Rio, and Isle of Youth municipality.
