Davos, Switzerland – January 2026:
The Indian Economic Trade Organisation (IETO) participated in the World Economic Forum 2026 in Davos, engaging with global policymakers, institutional leaders, and industry stakeholders to advance India’s trade and economic interests across strategic sectors. As part of its engagements at the forum, IETO held a significant interaction with senior leadership from India’s technology policy ecosystem, reinforcing its focus on digital trade and technology-led growth.
During the forum, Dr. Asif Iqbal, President of IETO, met with Mr. Abhishek Singh, Additional Secretary at the Ministry of Electronics and Information Technology (MeitY), to discuss the evolving global landscape for electronics, information technology, and emerging technologies, and the opportunities it presents for Indian enterprises.
The Ministry of Electronics and Information Technology (MeitY) plays a central role in shaping India’s digital future. The ministry is responsible for policy formulation and implementation related to electronics manufacturing, information technology, artificial intelligence, emerging technologies, digital public infrastructure, and e-governance initiatives. Mr. Abhishek Singh currently serves as Director General of the National Informatics Centre (NIC) and holds the additional charge of Additional Secretary, MeitY, with responsibility for Artificial Intelligence, Emerging Technologies, the Digital India Bhashini Division, and as Chief Executive Officer of the India AI Mission.
The interaction at WEF 2026 focused on the growing convergence between technology policy and international trade. Discussions highlighted how India’s electronics and IT companies are increasingly seeking structured access to global markets, particularly in areas such as AI-enabled solutions, digital platforms, electronics manufacturing, and public digital infrastructure exports.
IETO’s mandate to support Indian enterprises in exploring international business opportunities aligns closely with MeitY’s policy objectives. Through market access facilitation, trade delegations, institutional partnerships, and engagement with foreign governments and multilateral platforms, IETO works to help Indian electronics and technology companies integrate into global value chains.
Commenting on the engagement, Dr. Asif Iqbal, President of IETO, stated:
“India’s technology ecosystem is gaining strong global attention, and meaningful collaboration between policy institutions and trade organisations is essential to convert this momentum into international market access. Our interaction with Mr. Abhishek Singh at Davos reflects IETO’s commitment to working alongside MeitY to support Indian technology companies as they expand into global markets.”
IETO looks forward to building a long-term collaboration with MeitY, working together to enable Indian electronics and information technology enterprises to navigate the international business landscape, access new markets, and contribute to India’s growing role in global digital trade.
