Day 1

30 August 2019

Experience the Defense Capabilities of the future

10.30 AM- 12.00 PM
A threat is more adaptive, the threat is more capable and the threat is more pervasive, all of the things that we’ve heard in so many different spectrum’s: the barriers to entry remain low, the capacity and capabilities of our adversaries are improving. How can we help industry better understand the things it needs to meet new challenges in this space? How do we make Defense more resilient?  What is the choke-point and how might we redefine them as opportunities to establish confidence?  With this plenary we will set the scene and provide the intellectual backbone for the Resilience Summit which shall unite the world’s major stakeholders for an open debate on the future.

Challenges of Higher Education

12.45 PM- 2.00 PM
The poor-world, rich-world divide is well known, as is the divide between dominant and marginalized groups within countries. Are the existing models of Higher Education schools adequately preparing graduates? Are they able to make a significant contribution towards improving the health of the population, and particularly of the poor and other marginalized groups? If not, why are they failing? Is there a mismatch between the ideal and the reality of the situation? Is the world producing quality graduates to lead public health programmes and relevant research?

Strengthening ties between Gender and Resilience

3:00 PM – 4.30 PM
Women and Girls face continuous discrimination in access to education, health care and employment, lack of control over productive and financial resources, and marginalization from decisions that affect their livelihood and well-being. Despite this vulnerability, they play a vital role in unlocking the trans-formative potential of development assistance and in achieving long-term change. They are key in the capacity of households and communities to cope with, adapt and potentially transform in the face of shocks and stressors. Could we create international policies to strengthen this link and help us build resilience?

The Future of Global Resilience

4.30 PM – 6.00 PM
Achieving and sustaining community resilience are in the interest of the nation, states, communities, businesses, and citizens. Why, then, do resilient communities seem the exception rather than the rule? Private–public collaboration to enhance resilience can be extremely effective when efforts are designed to be largely autonomous at the community level with ties to higher levels of government support.  Can we continue this way for building resilient infrastructures, governance structures and new economic frameworks that consider sustainable models?  And what measures can we take holistically?

Experience and Shape the Women’s Channel Leadership of the future

10.00 AM – 11.30 AM
An organisation becomes fit for the future through its richness of ideas, approaches and perspectives. More and more women are taking up positions of responsibility on executive and supervisory boards across the world, thereby entering top management. The growing dynamics of this trend cannot be ignored. And one thing is clear: wherever this happens, old patterns of thought are being disbanded. We profit from this increased variety of thoughts, perspectives and solutions. The participants will work out their road map for shaping the future: What are the issues which we as business leaders have to change fundamentally in order to create a world that future generations want to live in? With this plenary we will set the scene and provide the backbone for mankind which shall unite the women for an open debate on the future.

Challenges and Trends in Higher Education and Social Media

12.00 PM- 1.30 PM
The past ten years have brought significant growth in access to Web technology and in the educational possibilities of social media. These changes challenge previous conceptualizations of education and the classroom, and pose practical questions for learners, teachers, and administrators. Today, the unique capabilities of social media are influencing learning and teaching in ways previously unseen. Social media is transforming sectors outside education by changing patterns in personal, commercial, and cultural interaction? The powerful session will examine educational institutions, access and participation, cultural reproduction, international accreditation, intellectual property, new business models, and technical architectures for digital education. Is there a mismatch between the conventional education and the reality of social media?

IETO to collaborate on opportunities in Artificial Intelligence with UAE
IETO Delegation met Mr. Omar Sultan Al Olama (عمر سلطان العلماء)  Minister of State for Artificial Intelligence in the United Arab Emirates.
He used an effective metaphor to describe where this “race” is at on the international stage.
“AI is like a black box,” he said. “There are countries that do not care what is in the black box, as long as the answer – or what comes out of it – is positive,” he said. Others, like the EU “are not concerned about the answer as long as everyone fits in the black box. And there are countries that don’t care about what the black box is, as long as they have the biggest black box.”
The minister and other experts on the AI panel at the Paris Peace Forum agreed that the major issue at hand is inclusivity, both at the national and international level.
