The Vice President of India, who was on the three-nation visit to Baltic Nations, visited the Lithuanian Parliament along with the high level Parliamentary delegation. They interacted about matters relating to parliamentary systems and exchanged views.

Upon his arrival at Seimas (Lithuanian Parliament) The Vice President of India, M Venkaiah Naidu, and his high-level delegation were welcomed by Viktoras Pranckietis, The Speaker of the Seimas. Parliamentary delegations from both sides held talks on procedures, conventions, and traditions relating to parliamentary systems in both the nations.

The Vice President of India, who is also the Chair Person of the Upper House of Parliament of India and his counterpart  Viktoras Pranckietis, who is the speaker of the Unicameral Parliament of Lithuania went around the parliament and visited galleries displaying the history of the house.

Naidu also visited the Parliament hall that hosts the plenary sessions of the newly elected government and hosts sessions on important occasions.

The Vice President, Shri M Venkaiah Naidu today called upon the Indian community in Lithuania to serve as a bridge in strengthening economic and cultural relations between the two countries.

Addressing the Indian community at Vilnius, the capital of Lithuania on the second day of his three nation tour to the Baltic region, he said the bilateral trade between the countries was below potential and added that Lithuania could be an important technology partner for India, especially in areas such as lasers, renewable energy, agro-food processing and life sciences.

Observing that India has become one of the fastest growing large economies in the world, he said the business sentiment following the numerous initiatives implemented by the Government of India was positive and upbeat. “The New India’s mantra is “Reform, Perform and Transform”, he added.

President of the IETO, Dr. Asif Iqbal who was a part of the Delegation praised the Lithuanian Government for supporting the Student community who are looking at the country with favourable fees and high standards of education. He has said he will come back for establishing formal relations with various universities for student exchange programs and create ecosystem for startups and Innovation.

Earlier, The Prime Minister H.E. Mr. Saulius Skvernelis also met the Vice President. Mr. Naidu had earlier visited the cemetery and laid the wreath at the Memorial to those who died in the struggle for Lithuanian Independence.
